TLC ANNOUNCES STATEN ISLAND LIVERY INSPECTIONS TO BEGIN APRIL 1

The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) today announced that, following a delay due to super-storm Sandy, operators whose vehicles are affiliated with Staten Island For-Hire Vehicle bases will be able to have their vehicles inspected entirely on Staten Island starting April 1, 2013 rather than having to travel to Queens. For-Hire Vehicle owners applying for a new license, renewing their license, or transferring a new vehicle to their existing license

will have the option of having their required initial Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) inspection performed at an authorized facility that will be assigned by the TLC on an individual basis.

After successfully completing the DMV Inspection, the required TLC visual inspection can then be done at the TLC’s 1893 Richmond Terrace, Staten Island facility. Medallion Taxicabs will continue to be inspected at the TLC’s Woodside Safety & Emissions facility every four months. Per TLC regulations, livery and other for-hire vehicle types must continue to be inspected every four months during their two-year licensing cycle. After the initial inspection on a new or renewing license has been completed through the TLC’s inspection process, the remaining five required inspections can take place at any New York State DMV-certified inspection facility.
In addition, vehicles submitting a Plate or Base Transfer application that only requires a visual inspection will now also have the option of having the required visual inspection performed at the TLC’s 1893 Richmond Terrace Staten Island facility.
Staten Island Bases will continue to schedule application and inspection appointments through the TLC’s web site at: http://www.nyc.gov/html/tlc/html/industry/licenses_main.shtml, where a new option for selecting the Staten Island inspection process has been added. Additional information on the inspection process can be found in the Frequently Asked Questions page of our web site: http://www.nyc.gov/html/tlc/html/faq/faq_licenses.shtml or on our Vehicle Owners page: http://www.nyc.gov/html/tlc/html/industry/fhv_veh_owners.shtml.
