After April 1, 2013 should be aware of proposed rules which may extend their vehicle retirement dates

NYC Taxi & Limousine Commission noticed Owners of Taxicabs with vehicles scheduled to retire on and after April 1, 2013 should be aware of proposed rules which may extend their vehicle retirement dates.

The proposed rules are available on the TLC Website here.  If adopted by the Commission, the retirement dates of vehicles with currently scheduled retirement dates from April 1, 2013 through the Official Taxi Vehicle Activation Date, or December 1, 2013, whichever date is earliest, will automatically be extended by one year.   If the rule is adopted, owners will need to continue to pass inspections in order to benefit from the extension granted by the rule.  Vehicles which cannot pass inspection must be retired from use.

In anticipation of consideration of these rules by the Taxi and Limousine Commission (currently anticipated to occur on April 18, 2013), the TLC is hereby extending the retirement dates of vehicles scheduled to retire between April 1, 2013 and May 29, 2013 to May 30, 2013.

PLEASE NOTE:  The extension contemplated by the proposed rule is NOT granted to owners of vehicles who have agreed to an extension of previously existing retirement dates in order to purchase an Official Taxi Vehicle as contemplated by TLC Rule §67-19(f).
